Things to Consider Before Installing a New Boiler

Need a new boiler? Then you probably have quite a few questions. The majority of boilers last for over ten years, so it has likely been over a decade since you last needed a new boiler, and a LOT has changed! We’ve answered the big questions when it comes to finding the right boiler for your home.

What size boiler do I need?

The size of your boiler depends on two things; the type of boiler you have chosen and your demand for hot water. Choosing a boiler that is too big means you may end up paying too much for your heating, and energy will be wasted; having a boiler that is too small means it may struggle to keep up with your demands. But don’t worry about making the wrong choice, our team of experts are always happy to help - All we need to know is the size of your home and amount of people living there.

Where will my boiler go?

A lot of new boilers are installed in kitchens, as they can be wall mounted and hidden in a cupboard, thanks to their new, compact size. This is ideal for a lot of homes, as it keeps the boiler out of sight and out of mind. Although, we know this doesn’t suit every home; especially those with smaller kitchens and no spare space, so it is always useful to consider other places. This includes cupboards and airing cupboards. You also need to consider where your extra components will go (e.g. water tanks and water storage cylinders) if your boiler requires them.

How efficient will my new boiler be?

When choosing your new boiler, the majority of your options will be A rated for efficiency; it is important you choose an A rated one. This means they are at least 90% efficient, so waste very little energy. This efficiency is achievable, as all new boilers are required to be condensing, as of 2004. Over time, you will begin to notice a big difference in your energy bills, and the savings will soon mount up!
